Winter in Puglia is an invitation to discover the region at its most authentic.
It’s a time for slower rhythms, unhurried walks, villages that tell their stories without filters, and the sea which, even in silence, remains a constant presence.
Traveling off season means granting yourself the privilege of experiencing the land more intimately: stepping into an artisan’s workshop, stopping to chat with those who preserve local traditions, savoring regional cuisine by a crackling fireplace.
A different way to get to know Puglia, made of simple gestures and understated beauty.
The Days of the Blackbird – The Heart of Winter
According to Italian folklore, anuary 29th, 30th, and 31st are known as the Days of the Blackbirdtraditionally considered the coldest days of the year e and a way to predict the arrival of spring: if the weather is cold, spring will be mild; if it’s warm, spring will arrive late.
This belief is rooted in an ancient legend about a blackbird with white feathers who, to escape the harsh winter cold, took shelter in a chimney for three days, emerging blackened by soot.

In Puglia, these days become an occasion for gathering and togetherness: lit bonfires, shared meals and stories exchanged that warm the air and bring people closer.
A symbolic ritual marking the passage toward the end of winter, inviting us to rediscover the value of human warmth, community and traditions that stand the test of time.
Putignano Carnival – Where Art Takes Shape
Just a few kilometers from Polignano a Mare, Putignano hosts one of the oldest carnivals in Europe, now in its 632nd edition.
An event that transforms the town into a vast open-air creative workshop, where satire, craftsmanship and imagination coexist in perfect balance.
The undisputed stars are the majestic papier-mâché allegorical floats, true moving works of art, crafted with a mastery passed down through generations.
